Good Day!

Funny how the Corvette changes everything, yet once again, the discussion only revolves around its price. Comments, like, How can GM sell it for so cheap! And, That’s so much performance for that price! Etc. Then, there’s the comparisons to Lamborghini, McLaren, Ferrari, Porsche with comments that the new Supra is already obsolete.
The reason for this and the wild comparisons revolve around the Corvette being mid engined, and it’s claimed 0-60 time.
So, my long winded question is:
Will the C8 live up to the hype? Is a 0-60 time enough to compare it to the elite super cars now available? Will it keep up with them after 60 mph? Can it hang with them on a track? Can it brake as well, repeatedly?
Those are questions I would like to know before I would say Ferrari, McLaren, and Lamborghini need to be worried.

They have no need to worry. Different market, different marketing, and different client profile. There won’t be many C8 Corvettes cruising the beach in Monaco or in any of the other places the super elite hang out. At the end of the day it’s still a Chevy, a cool Chevy, but still a Chevy.

Another question if I may add:

What will the quality be like? It's not enough that the C8 may be able to out perform or keep up with $200,000 plus cars, but the quality needs to be there as well. I don't expect a mass produced $70,000 car to be in the same league as a hand built car, three times the price, however the build quality still needs to be nearly spectacular, or close to it.
If GM can pull this off, performance, price and quality, they will have a home run.

I’m eager to get in one and try the mighty DCT that I’ve been in a fun debate over on a different thread.
Yes I’m a manual transmission guy 100% because that’s the feeling I enjoy driving, but not so old and stuck on a principle that I’m not willing to try it.

As far as stand alone branding goes... maybe a stand alone dealership like Cadillac but I actually don’t see it happening. Interesting idea though. It would certainly give buyers a better and more focused sales and service experience. Possibly in the biggest Canadian markets... but likely not YEG with 9 months of crap weather.

Maybe a Cadillac/Corvette stand alone. The Caddy has a pretty sporty model or two and they do attract a slightly more well heeled clientele. That joint offering may resolve the 9 month of winter issue in the great white north. I do agree with the previous poster though, that as long as Corvettes are parked in the showroom beside Malibu’s and Impala’s, the brand will not be viewed as elite or exotic. Just the Camaro’s big brother. They even look alike....lol.....

You make a great point about the showroom Corvettes sitting beside a Trax or Equinox.
Definitely the Camaro would put some pressure on the sales too. Caddy/Corvette showroom would look great and really be more to my liking to be dealing on a car. Would especially prefer the service experience with specialty Techs.

Ok you sold me on the idea. 😁

Is there a Chevy Bow-Tie on the 2020 anywhere?

Actually ... is there a Chevy Bow-Tie on a C7.?

Maybe Corvette could be it’s own Division?
With models like Stingray, Z51, Z06 and ZORA.

I could not agree more! Today my wife and I met up with some friends of ours for a morning cruise, abt a dozen cars. We meet at a Starbucks for abt an hour then do a leisurely hour cruise for lunch. At the Starbucks, the cars are all parked relatively close to one another and its interesting to see which cars are photographed/looked at the most..... and it isn't my Corvette. My friends are car guys and appreciate the performance of the Corvette, (and also acknowledge that it will run with most of their cars), but, to the general public, it really is just a Chevy. I will definitely be looking at the C8, and while it will have more of an exotic car appearance, I do believe that Cariboocreek (sadly) is correct in what he says....

Nice to hear your perspectives. I guess I was more wondering with the media jumping all over the Corvette being able to keep up with the exotics in the 0-60 times, if it doesn't keep up in other areas, if people are going to think it's a failure due to drawing unreasonable expectations from one piece of information.

Those cars are GORGEOUS that you hang out with Paul.

As for Ferrari, Lambo, McLaren, etc being worried, I also can't see it. As stated, it's a totally different clientele where I imagine people enjoy not only a beautiful, fast car, but one that isn't seen everyday.

I look forward to seeing the C8. I imagine there are going to be a lot of them on the road after a few years.

While I dont think the C8 will ever be seen as an exotic, I truly hope that the performance, the interior cabin and the visual looks will keep the brand moving forward, perhaps gain a younger audience due to the affordability. And yes, I did take some ribbing from my buddies for not getting into (we are Italian) a Ferrari or Lambo, but they are pretty impressed with the performance of the Vette. For now I shall enjoy the C7, wait and see how the C8 will do in its first year and then decide what to lean towards.....
Chevy C8 'exotic' or Italian exotic...... enjoy your cars everyone!!

Your Vette still looks classier than their cars. IMHO

Maybe you could pick up a ZR. Bet they would take a lot more notice.

This is less a Ferrari/Lambo conversation for me than it is about Porsche. Unless you are spending mad money ($250+) on a top tier 911 you are very likely having your lunch eaten by a C7--and now the C8 comes along.

This is not a hate on for Porsche--I love the cars and always have. Porsche will continue to prosper and deserve to for all they have given the automotive world.
The value equation however continues to worsen and will get more challenging, especially on the lower end models without the history of the 911. The value equation is nonsense on most exotics but it's offset by exclusivity--the everyday Porsche is neither exotic nor exclusive and a Vette tears the pants off it just about every category for significantly less. If the C8 can attract younger buyers and penetrate Europe, it could make a dent into the likes of Porsche, BMW etc..

Euro snobs might never jump off the Porsche train, but any of the ones I'm around know exactly where they fall short. I strongly considered getting one next, but if the C8 is what they say it is I know where my money is going.

@Paul C& My Z06 sometimes draws ridiculous attention (read embarrassing), but the company you're in with those pics makes it totally understandable as their are some really special cars there. I will tell you that the Z draws more attention than most 911's all day long though.
