Hello Everyone,

Curious to know how the looming American tariff situation will affect our oil changes in Canada, given the GM recommended Mobil 1 Supercar 0W-40 comes from US. And to my knowledge, we dont have a local dealer that brings it here which was already a problem. Only GM sells the Supercar oil through dealers.

Did anyone find a better way to source this oil in Canada? Will we sit and get slapped 25% by the local dealers or do we/will we have alternatives in this challenging environment?

I have the essential services plan so GM is paying for my oil changes.
If your car doesn't have an extended warranty I wouldn't worry about getting the exact oil.
Depending on how you use your car and as long as it's Dexos I don't think it matters if it's not exactly 0w40.

About $95 CAD for 6 litres on Amazon. Filter is cheap unlike the transmission.

I see Amazon has 6 quarts pack for $95 like you mentioned. Do we need to order 2 packs then getting 12 quarts?

How many quarts/liters does Grand Sport/Z06 oil change take with dry sump? 9.5 quarts?

Thank you Cobravenomous! So because Grand Sport LT1 is dry sump but not supercharged, the liter requirement is still the same as the supercharged LT4 then?
The chart is kinda confusing in a funny way. Cant see a straight LT1 Grand Sport capacity =) thanks for clarifying

If your motor has the dry sump oil system then it takes 9.3 liters…….if your changing the oil yourself there are instructions on how to check the level of the oil when filling…….follow the instructions carefully and top of as necessary……don’t overfill. As well if my memory serves me correctly…..it’s been a year since I changed mine, I believe there are two oil drain plugs…….if your buying an oil filter, buy the OEM oil filter (GM has two filters, buy the more expensive, better quality filter….its much heavier). …..you’re simply protecting your engine. As well I read if you’re “not” tracking the car you can use the cheaper Mobile 1 (5W30) Dexos 1 synthetic oil. Again if you’re changing yourself……you need low profile ramps as regular ramps will hit your front splitter…..

Corvettes without the Z51 package (no dry sump oil system) have an oil capacity of 6.6 liters…….just look at the chart more carefully……..Corvettes with the dry sump oil system have the greater capacity! If you have the Z51 package then you have the dry sump system.

FWIW, my Stingray (2019 M7 base without Z51) has been getting a diet of Mobil 1 Dexos2 ESP 5W30, which was sometimes on sale at Canadian Tire for mid-to-high $30's for a 4.73 litre jug the last time I bought at the end of summer 2024 (It actually has specs that aren't that different from the Dexos2 0W40 ESP Mobil 1 according to some discussions I've seen or heard - certainly suitable for street use, but my car never gets tracked, ever). I did stick with the 5W30 ESP Dexos 2 instead of using the latest/greatest iteration of Dexos 1 5W30 (non-ESP). I've also stuck with the PF64 filter, which has the correct by-pass pressure spec'd by Generous Motors, and DYI change the oil generally around the 30 - 40 "oil life remaining" point, to me that's cheap insurance especially since the oil is far less money than the Supercar 0W40. I buy my AC PF64 filters a few at a time from Rock Auto, works out to less than $6 Cdn each landed cost.

Take notice of the inclusion in the 2019 Owner's Manual where oil requirements are stated - and which includes the line "5W30 grade oil may be used if 0W40 isn't available", I use that as gospel for my 6 year & 11 month old 2019.

If I was running a Z06, I'd definitely be sticking to the Supercar stuff due to the blower.

See pix - showing the 4.73 litre bottle and the Dexos2 blue symbol instead of the green Dexos1 symbol.
