Hi Everyone !

Just a quick question: I just acquired a 1998 C5 convertible with the base 5.7L engine. Just wondering if the oil filters I use on my 2005 C6 coupe with the base 6.0L engine will also fit the C5. I hope they do as I have a plentiful supply of them.

Does anyone know?

Wishing all a good and jolly Holiday Season !

I believe it should be the same filter from the LS1 to the LS2. The LS3 debut in 2008 was when they went to the metric thread filter.

Based on a quick Fram search yes.....

The change from the 13/16-16TPI took place in the 2007 (Last of the LS2) model year when they went to the 22mmX1.5mm thread pitch. Another difference that I noticed looking in the Fram catalog filter specs is that it shows the filter bypass valve opening pressure for the XG10060 as 9-15PSI while the XG3506 list the bypass valve setting as NONE so I assume it means that the XG3506 doesn't have a filter bypass valve in it. I found this out shortly after we acquired our 2007 in 2016 and I did my first oil change. I found the XG3506 filters that are normally about $14 on sale for $7 so bought 6 of them and had to take them back.

Roger! How convenient for me.

First time I hear about a bypass valve it the oil filter. I never paid attention to that detail. So if both filters - with and without the bypass valve - fit the threading, I may still get it wrong. What does the bypass valve do exactly?

In a worst case scenario of a plugged filter or extremely thick oil that is hard to pump due to cold the filter bypass valve opens and prevents oil starvation to the engine but the oil is not filtered.

I stand corrected. Thank you Ice.
