a friend has told me about a 78/79 c3 for sale, apparently appraised at 28,000. it as 7,000 original kilometers. she is asking 30,000. I am not sure what the market value would be on this car, its located in regina, sask.. right now the owner is not willing to drop very much based on the appraisal. thoughts?

Look on Kijiji and it won't be even close to selling at that price. There are an awful lot of really nice cars available for a lot less. I'd sell our 2005 for that kind of money. and move up a couple or three years.

Appraisal are mostly for insurance company to have a "replacement value" and to calculate the cost of the policy but do not always reflect market value. Its a low millage car but 30k ??? it better have pretty rare options and a special history.

I agree with The Boss... seems high...
It better be something special to command the price...
I believe that 1979 was the highest production run of C3s!
Many 1978 versions were put away because of an anticipated collector status of the 25th year but that never really happened due to so much availability. Even the real silver anni editions have to be super-clean to command this price.
Rubber bumber C3s aren't typically in that $30K range.
They are coming, but not there yet!
Whenever people ask me if their car is worth an certain amount I usually tell them what else is available for that value.
$30K could get an early C6, a very nice C5-Z06, even a nice(not perfect)chrome bumper C3.
If you put a 2006 vert, a super clean 2004-Z06, a nice '72 coupe and this '78('79?) for sale next to each other in a driveway..... Which car sells first???? Second ?, Third ?
A local fellow here has had his very nice '80 for sale for a couple of years..asking $30K+.... he says if nobody pays him that much than he will 'keep the car!' Guess what...he still owns the car. He has probably $50K+ in it.

Don't get me wrong, I do know of some C3s going for over $30K but these are super restored and very well documented.

I'm not an expert but like I have said before... I stayed in a Holiday Inn once. LOL

I can't find a decent c3 for a low price.

They start at about 14,000 and go up from there. I have my eyes peeled for a c3 under$10000, but can't find one

I have seen quite a few for the 10k mark. It seems to be an average of 12-16k around my area. I told my friend that it was nothing special and what I thought the market range was, but it's good to get the opinion of other more knowledgeable people. Thanks gentlemen, i have been keeping an eye on the c3's because I do like the styling, even if they are kind of underpowered for my liking. I currently own an 05 vert, z51 package. Power top and all the toys, just flipped 64k.

Hi Shayne...
The low mileage on that '78-79 will certainly add value.
But I believe you are correct.. most C3s for under $10K will need work.
You are probably better off in the $14-16K range for a well cared for car.
As always it pays to have a car of this age checked over by a pro..
there is so much that can be wrong with these .
.frame, rear bearing assemblies, trailing arms, etc..

Take care pal

First off I agree with everyone thus far.

Seems quite high for a late year C3. Obviously without seeing the car it is hard to say. Low KM will help value but it all depends how the car was stored. Improper storage and maintenance can make a low KM car an absolute basket case to try to drive or fix. Average value for a 78 should be somewhere around 9-11K for a non anniversary and non pace car. An anniversary car will get about 2-3K more. A pace car will get about 4-5K more. All very much depends on condition, as does any car. You should be able to find an excellent C3 for under 20K in Sask/Alberta.

This is all my 2 cents. I am only going from my own experience and research.

It appears that everyone (including me), and except possibly the seller of that C3, is pretty much in agreement. For me there would have to be something extremely special about that car to shell out 30k. Perhaps a bag of money stashed behind the seat ????? lol.... I bought my 09 C6 in 2013 for 33k. Granted. It had 29000km on it.

Lots of good points made about the car's value. It is only worth what someone is willing in to pay. There are lots of them out there, it's not a rare C3. Go look on ebay, always all kinds of C3's on there. So is the car really optioned out ? , is the color combo what you really want ? 7K , so the tires are probably original , and anything over 10 years old are not recommended to be safe. Do you want to drive this car or just look at it and show and shine once in awhile ? Distance and vehicle safety inspection to licence are in your favor here so that is worth something. Does she have all the car's history, bill of sale etc ? Windshield, exhaust system all original ?
2 years ago when I was looking for a C3 I turned down a mint 81 with 49K for 17,000 . I didn't like the colors and no power seat and mirrors. I ended up with a very nice loaded 82 with what I wanted for only 12,800 . So look around as they are out there. And if that car is what turns your crank then make her a offer , if she says no I think she will be sitting on it for a long time at 30K . I can point you to a new 78 Pace car in alberta, original owner, 34 miles ( bought in usa ) , think 40K will take it last I talked to him when I was looking for mine.

I am like you xfire 82 I prefer the styling of the 81/82 to the 77-79. My friend thought I would be interested in it, but the price is just too much for me. I probably would have went to 15/16 just because of the low k. I guess they will decide if they want to sit on it and wait for a buyer. Thanks everyone for the info, truly appreciated.
