Hi Guys, wondering if anyone in Canada rebuilds Trailing Arm Bearing assembly's ? With the exchange rate and shipping it looks like the U.S is out for Trailing arm bearing service. Anyone in Canada I could ship my trailing arm to, to get my bearings set up properly? Maybe a source for slip fit rear spindles?
Thanks.

Thanks Buckhorn, Just fired off a email to Dasilva.. seems like during the last rebuild the rear bearing setup was too loose, No noise coming from the bearings yet but there is movement. Hope to get it done over the winter.
Cheers

I bought my 82 a year ago, it was never touched. The rear wheels had play and I thought this is not good. Bought the setup tool, a shop manual , took the time to make sure the new bearings were set to spec. Put everything back on the car, grab the wheel and still a bunch of play. That is how they are made to be, they are not like the front wheels. So unless yours are really wobbly, I wouldn't be too worried. There is a tool that you can put on and grease the inner bearing right on the car too. But if in doubt, do it all and should never have to worry about it for many years.

Are you convinced all the 'play' is in the bearing assembly?... 'cause it can also be the stub axle 'play' as well.
I'm not a rear-end expert(so to speak!) but I believe the axle keepers wear inside the rear end that hold in the stub axles and also the ends of the stub axles wear as well.
This wear can add up inside the rear end. I replaced a set of stub axles years ago due to end wear. You can also get teflon buttons for the ends of the axles.
When you grab the wheel at the top and bottom and move it, you have to look to see if the movement is in the bearing or the stub axle.
There could be a little play in both that has got you concerned.
But if you are not sure when they were last done then I agree with XFIRE82...do it and you will not have to worry for a long while.

Thanks Guys, I'm going to dig in soon, I will post what I find, I did notice from a quick check that grabbing the wheel at 9 and 3 there is no movement. At 12 and 6, I can hear a clunk when aggressively rocking . no noise from the bearings at all when cruising. but over washboard roads I sometimes get a clunking sound from the rear wheel. I will disconnect the half shafts and with a friend have a good look, I will post my results.

I'm pretty sure the half shaft acts as an upper suspension link. If the yoke on the side of the diff gets worn (too much in-out play) it may be causing your 12-6 movement and washboard noise. I believe I have read the yoke can wear.
If you have wheel brg. play you should have wheel movement in all directions. You could pull the wheel and rotor and put a dial indicator on the spindle and check play. I think most are set up at .001".
My car had about 1/2" wheel movement on the Dr side when I got it. It was causing a pull to the L on accel and pullt o the R on decell.

Just had all my U joints replaced with Spicer joints by Extreme Driveline in Red Deer.. Excellent work, they check the run out and balance on all the shafts to within 1/thou on a high speed lathe. Well worth the time and effort.

Hi Guys, Working on the Vette today and decided to tackle the clunking sound coming from the rear. I removed the half shafts and checked out the bearing play, seems like very little play, a little drag on the stub axle with no binding,I couldn't feel any roughness turning the side axle. I re-tightened the castle nut to 100 ft lbs and focused on the u-joints... seems like there is play in the joints and I also noticed movement in the side yolk. I will replace the U-joints first then report back.
