new vette owner and new to the forum. I have a 2003 automatic 40,000 kms. The car runs perfectly with no warnings and normal operating temperatures. However when the car is stopped and cooling down there's a burning rubber smell. Is this normal? Does anyone have any experience with this?

Hmmmm. You may wish to step more lightly on the gas pedal. :D

Can you tell what area of the car it is coming from? Front or back? Does the smell get stronger if you open the hood?

From the front under the hood. No difference if the hood is open or closed. No evidence of any electrical failure.

any tires rubbing? My rear suspension is softer and my rear tires now rub ( my Mustang ). Went over size and now going to change back to the size it should be.

Brian

No tires rubbing. Stock rims and tires. I have no issues with the car other than an unexplained odour. Normal driving and not heavy on the gas.

I'll check for debris. Thanks Keith. If you are the person I'm thinking about we have a mutual friend as a classic car appraiser.

Yes I was there last night parked beside Pat. Got there at 6. Not sure if I will make it next week. We should meet sometime. Pat tried to find you at Warsaw recently but I met your wife instead sitting with Mary. Small world.

We'll definitely have to get together for a chat.......might even talk about cars. :)

Update: discovered there was an oil filter leak. At highway speeds oil was blowing back onto the exhaust causing the odour. New filter installed and no problems since.

Great to hear it was a simple fix! My truck had an oil burning smell on the highway however, I know a couple of the remote oil filter lines are leaking so chalked it up to exactly what you are describing.
