I am very good on brakes. Usually paddle down when coming to stops. I have a 2017 C7 A8 GS Z07 package and today I received a service message saying 'Brakes Worn'. Is that normal for this vehicle with only 18,000 kms on the clock? I do not track the car. Normally 50,000 - 60,000 kms is not an issue with other vehicles. Is this maybe a computer error? Last week I got a message saying my Anti Theft needed servicing. Thinking GM is tracking my bank accounts!!!

It's likely a sensor problem. Not uncommon. You can jack up the car and check the pads or take it back to the dealer and have them check the pads and the sensors. If it's a sensor, it will be under warranty.

Agreed this sounds like a sensor problem. Especially with your carbon-ceramic brakes you should not be having any kind of issue without serious track time. I'm not sure about the warranty aspect as they have some sketchy criteria on sensors for certain wear systems after the B2B warranty ends. I ran into a problem with my 13Z that was clearly a sensor however was not covered on the driveline warranty due to the system. My 17 is about to lose the B2B warranty this summer so hopefully, yours is still active too. On a good day, your dealer will definitely sort it for you.

Thanks Derek. My B2B warranty runs out in July but I have extended which is good through 2024. Dealer appointment Monday.

If this is not too much of "private nature" to ask: How much did you get the extended warranty for ? Mine expires in September and wondering if it is worth it to even try negociating something.

I had the same message with my 2015 Z07 with CCBs. Took it back to the dealer, they repaired under warranty, told me it was a sensor. Shortly after I started driving it again, the message returned "Brakes Worn". Called the dealer back and now they want over $200 to do a complete analysis. That was last Fall and I refused to take it in to have that done. It's fairly obvious that there is an inherent problem with the Carbon Ceramic Brake sensors and unfortunately I don't think the dealer's techs know what they are doing when it comes to rectifying the issue. I have read other posts about the same situation on other Z06 forums but their owners seemed to have got the problem solved. Unfortunately those incidents appear to be in the US. I just push reset and message goes away, but it would be nice to get it fixed properly. I have 25,000 kms on my car and do not track it. I was told initially with the CCBs that I would probably never have to worry about brakes during the car's lifetime. I am hoping that GM comes up with a proper fix as these brakes are fantastic otherwise.

I checked my brake pads without removing the wheels and appear to be lots left. Took it to the dealer and they checked online and when I brought it in for an oil change about a month ago they said 15 point check showed that I had 90% left on pads. Said looks like a software issue so I've got an appointment with the software expert tomorrow. Now that I'm taking it in to the dealer the message has never come back.

The moral to this story. Took it into the dealership and my front left brake sensor was broken. They replaced sensor under warranty. I was just worried because it costs a ton to replace rotors on the Z07 package!!!
