Mentioned some time ago about a new book by Bob Kehoe on the life of Canada's Billy Foster. First Canadian to qualify at the Indianapolis 500, Canadian American Modified Racing Association Champion, United States Auto Club stock car racer, the man was talented. Foster honed his skills on the many tracks in British Columbia, especially the Victoria area.

Bought this book from Amazon.ca, my normal supplier of books Coastal 181 sadly will not ship to Canada any longer, asked why but received no reply. If you are the least bit interested in racing on the west coast this book is filled with history and some great photos. Many remembrances of Foster by friends and competitors. Covers many of the great drivers and fabricators who came from the west coast.

Always knew who Foster was but really did not know much about the man. I found it a great read. Foster lost his life at Riverside, California in a USAC stock car when a front brake drum exploded at the end of the mile long Riverside straight. Trying to scrub off some speed he put the car against the concrete wall. It did not work, his head came out of the side of the car and stuck the wall. He died instantly. Eventually led to cars having to be equipped with window nets. Too late for Foster.

Great read.
