The 1964 Chevrolet Cheetah, designed and built by Bill Thomas Race Cars, was a limited production, Corvette-powered sports car intended as a direct competitor to the Ford Shelby Cobra, featuring a lightweight fiberglass body, a mid-mounted Chevrolet V8 engine, and a chrome-moly tubular chassis, all designed to deliver exceptional speed and handling, though hampered by production issues and a short lifespan due to Chevrolet's eventual withdrawal from the project; considered a rare and iconic American racecar with a cult following despite its limited production run and challenging racing history.

For the Cheetah, Thomas employed a front-mid engine layout, and a chrome-moly tubular chassis, with independent suspension borrowed from the Corvette. To achieve ideal weight distribution, he pushed the V8 so far back in the frame that the “driveshaft” consisted of little more than a flanged U-joint coupling.
