I was just going over the 2019 build options and realized I missed the Battery Protection Package. Does any one know if this can be purchased from the dealer. Also, is this set up as easy as it looks. Just plug a battery tender into the port in the trunk?

The option is just a battery tender that comes with...lol... Yup... easy breezy... Plug it into the hatch port, drape a cloth down over the fender for the cord to lay against, plug it into the wall and forget it. The only thing you're missing with a CT $29.00 battery tender is the C7 emblem on the tender.. I'm pretty sure it would be available from the dealer ...

Yes definitely available from the dealership. A good one will throw it in with the deal or give it to you at a big discount. They are about $160 retail at the dealer.
Eric’s 100% right. The CT tender is virtually identical and performs the same. Canadian Tire has many tenders so there are choices. Genius makes a good one too.

Thanks for the replies. I know a battery tender is a must. It was always a pain putting one on the C6 with the battery at the front and no outlet that I was aware of.

My C6 Z had the battery in the rear as does your new C7. It’s a dream with this car plug and forget. 👍

YES & YES

The GM extender (I have one each for two C7s) - it is what it is - nice Logo
Too bad it doesn't come in Carbon Fibre but then it would be no doubt be pricey & the top choice of @ddgermann

3rd party Schumacher Extender recommendation of mine - has the plug-in option like above
(I actually use three of these for boat & boat lift batteries)
I tested them on the Corvette and love the scrolling display versus the extenders with just lights

Derek I think the coupes and verts have the battery under the hood in the C6s. Like you,my Z’s is in the back passenger side. I think it has to do with the dry sump system.

Here’s the tender I’ve been using for 4 winters. I’ve never had an issue with this at all. I’ve got the short cord attached to the boosting posts permanently on the block and run this cord through the side vent. Plug in and forget.

Many choices out there. I have used my CTek tenders for abt 4 years now and am extremely satisfied with them.

Thanks for all the input. After doing a little research I found that the battery tenders vary in price from around $30 to over $300 with the Corvette one listed at $115 as a build option. My first choice was to get it with the car and just add it to the initial cost but the dealer said that it was too late to order it with the build. That in itself seems odd considering that it is just a box that comes with the car. It was mentioned on this thread that the dealer sold them for $160 but I am not likely to pay that for a $30 charger even if it had a Carbon Fibre Corvette symbol on it. Anyway I settled on the Schumacher Extender recommended above . I ordered it today from Amazon at $68 with free shipping. On the Amazon site there were many reviews. They were all 100% positive and several people indicated that they had found this extender to be much better than their previous choices. I noticed yesterday when I visited two other dealerships nearby that of the 6 Corvettes in the showroom only two had come with the battery protection so I suspect there will be a lot of new owners looking for extenders for the coming winter.

I'm actually quite surprised your dealer didn't throw it in for you. Here is what the retail is from any dealer in Canada.
Not exactly a big ticket item.

Sounds like you got a good one coming for half the price. It will work great even without the crossed flags logo.
Just remember the maintainer is not an option on your C7. It's a must to keep your car from draining the battery in a week or so. It literally is plug and forget so don't drive away with it connected.:thumbs:

I have been off to Europe for a couple of weeks in June 2018 so all told I was maybe three weeks without a start up. No problems when I hit the start button. Started right up

That's good to know Richard. With the Z06 I'm thinking 3 weeks would not be ok; but really do not know. I was warned not to leave the car unplugged for more than a few days. I actually do not know the difference between computers and battery draw with the Stingray vs Z06.. if there is any. I would expect there would be some though with the Mag Ride etc.
Hope somebody does and clears this one up for us.
I have never left any of the 3 Z06s unplugged for more than a few days so have never experienced the "dead" battery. However, it's good to hear one can forget for a week or 3 and not have a "Homer" moment getting back to the car to go for a ride.

When reading reviews on the C7 the issue I ran across most was owners letting the battery drain with subsequent problems resulting with the infotainment features. I think I will plug mine in if it is going to be sitting longer than 2 weeks.

I think it depends on power drains in specific cars. Son has a BMW that has low power warning light to advise to put tender on it. But that is a local drier so probably just never puts the miles on to keep the battery fully charged.
Neighbor across the street has a Toyota that will drain the battery in a couple of weeks if not driven. Had it checked out for current draw when stopped and nothing unusual was found They have another car with no problems. Again this is a 4K a day driver so that could be a big factor. Just never charges up.
Seems to be the luck of the draw.
When I was still gainfully employed my Equinox had sat for at least two months and it started right away as well. Luckily haven't experienced the problem.

Doubt there is much difference electrically between yours and mine Derek. I pretty well have a full pack of options including mag ride.
Almost seems to be luck of the draw. But that doesn't make too much sense either. Don't see GM building cars with different wiring harnesses.
