Any Forum Members Receive Notification Of Tornado Damaged C8

… pretty sure no one has to accept damaged goods - it is all on the dealer integrity to just ask them if it had tornado damage fixed and refuse delivery … 🙂👍🏻

I wonder how they would fix cosmetic damage. I'd want panels replaced or some sort of compensation.
I expect all 115 cars will be either repaired to BGA quality specs or be a new build depending on the
extent of each vehicles damage.
If a car isn't repairable and a new build is required, I wonder what happens to the VIN #. Is it reused
on the new build or more likely the owner will be issued a new VIN# and the original VIN# documented as destroyed.

If a customer’s order was impacted by the storm, the customer will be contacted by their dealer and their order will be prioritized and re-sequenced back into production, with an expected production date as quickly as possible after the plant resumes normal operations.

I'm guessing (60% Chance of being right) that they will get the same vins and inserted in to the lineup as soon as the parts become available. The sequence number is not the same as the vin, though there is a relationship between the two.

I got a nasty message from a user on another forum saying they can't re-use vins. I have no idea, but it would seem to me that if the car was never produced then the vin was not used. Anyway 122 cars damaged means pretty much the whole assembly line of cars were hit in some way. If it takes 1.5 shifts to build a car then about 140 cars are on the line at the same time

Not to worry Murray...

I remain unconVINced; perhaps you're correct and if so you'll be VINdicated by proVINg him wrong and you've received undeserVINg criticism from this unforgiVINg person who's really only revVINg his engine and giVINg you a hard time. lol

PS: Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year to you and yours!:gents2:

Could it be that some (or all) the damaged ones were not in the plant, but parked outside awaiting transport? Either way, sucks that another setback plagues this year’s production. These things are in short enough supply without Mother Nature throwing them another curve.

Any cars that can be repaired by changing easily accessible parts will likely be. But most will be crushed, including wheels & tires. The reasoning is, GM gets tax credit for the full wholesale value of the car, but it must be 98% complete. I've seen it done at Bramalea Assembly in Ontario. (Chrysler). They pull the gas tank and battery for safety, then poke a fork lift fork through all 4 tires, pick it up and place it in a mobile crusher and make a cube of it. The procedure must be fully witnessed and documented to get the credit.
