Another trip of a lifetime

Just finished ,Barrie Ontario, to Route 66, across the states to California, just north Los Angeles, Coast highway all the way up to Oregon, through the redwood forests into Surrey BC. Short stay in Surrey, had to take the Grandson for a spin, then back across highway 2 into Sault Ste Marie and home. Our 91 C4 6 spd. performed almost flawlessly. It ate the fuel pump first day out near Fort Wayne. Got it fixed at a GM dealer and it never missed a single beat, no sore backs , seats were comfortable. Roads were incredible, especially the Coast. Total over 11000 Kms, one stone chip and a cracked windshield, many unforgettable hours behind the wheel.
Gotta love it.

Wow -- that's on my list of to-do's for sure. My buddy in Albuquerque lives very close to the old 66 that runs right thru town. You probably took the bypass hwy 40 I think.
Glad to hear that the vette performed very well. Shame about the fuel pump but unavoidable.

Not surprised to hear that it was comfy all the way. Steamer and I were equally impressed with my '94 when we drove it back from BC to here. That trip paled in comparison but was still 4000 kilometers. Enjoyed every click of that one too. (first time that far west).

Did you do a mileage check at all Dave? I'm thinking you could knock off 30 mpg's (Imperial) as we did coming across Canada.

Only drawback for the C4's is their limited luggage space. You just have to pack efficiently. No biggie unless someone wants to "shop 'til they drop".

Thanks for sharing with us. Post some pics if you have 'em. I've heard that there are some real nostalgic sights along the way.

Did you drive the PCH at all?

Cheers,
C.

So many questions!
Yes we drove the pacific coast highway, it should be on every corvette owners bucket list, especially if you own a 6spd.Take a friend because if you are driving you can't look at the scenery, the road demands attention.
Driving time total about 18 days at 8 hours (incl pit stops) 162 Hours. We knew it would be long, but we had 3 weeks. If you really want to explore Route 66, you would need more time, a good portion of it is slow going.
Mileage, by the trip computer, overall average 26.4USMPG = 31.7 MPG Imperial.
We learned to travel light a while ago. We had it down to a fine art, even had space for our small dog,and able to slide the curtain over
to give her shade.
I did not mention but, even in the 103Deg F (40 Deg C) drive across the Mojave Desert, the temp guage never even reached 1/2. Most of the time it runs around the 1/4 mark. The new radiator was a good investment.
I'll try and figure out how to post some photos.

Nice one Dave! I did Route 66 this summer as well. Loved every minute of it!

Sounds like one awesome trip! I would love to do something like that one day as it is on my bucket list. My wife and I were planning on completing a trip involving the PCH, but time seems not be lining up with us.......maybe in a few more years....
Looking forward to seeing some pics if you get a chance to post them up!
