I have a bit of a time sensitive question. I took the 2023 C8 in for service and it is due for its DCT service (11,850km). The car had an oil change at 5,500kn which did not include the DCT service (as it was not needed then). The service department is saying that for the DCT service to be “free” it would have had to be done at the initial service. My understanding is that this is no longer correct. They are committing to look into this for me but I was wondering if anyone has any documentation that supports this no longer being the case.

I found a bulletin showing updates service info for MY2024 but nothing on the 2023. Hoping some here who is more knowledgeable may be able to point me in the right direction.

I will get the service done either way but would like to save the $$ if possible. Thanks!

I did not realize this was an option. I will give them a shout. Thanks!
Here is the techlink article that states it should only be changed at the required interval.

Thanks for this Murray! I did an online chat with GM Customer Care as you suggested and they confirmed for me that for the 2023 C8 there is one complimentary DTC Filter change and that filter change can be done anytime within 3 years irrespective of the KM's on the vehicle but that it is best to follow the service guidelines - which as you detail (and the manual details) is at ~ 12,000km. They said my dealer should have the documentation to support this but I did download a transcript of the chat to bring with me if there is an issue. Hopefully, there won't be but I guess I will see later today.

Well, the dealer covered the DTC service and it went though. For anyone interested the latest “rules” are:

2023 Vehicles - 2 complimentary oil changes must be done within 24 months of in-service date, one DTC Filter change, any time/km, not linked to an oil change at the discretion of the owner but within 36 months of in-service date

2024 or later Vehicles - 2 complimentary oil changes must be done within 36 months of in-service date, one DTC Filter change, any time/km, not linked to an oil change at the discretion of the owner but within 36 months of in-service date

This is the deal according to my service advisor and it lines up with what I heard from GM Customer Care.

Thanks to this who responded to help out. It’s a journey…

So sad, 6 model years in and Chevy can't square away their Nationwide Service Network...
Indeed. It does seem to be much harder than it needs to be. Thankfully there are resources like this forum. I wonder how many people just cut the cheque for $950 and don’t know better.

I guess as many as pay $5500 for a $2000 extended warranty. It’s sketchy out there.

What your dealer said is bull.... They did mine at 10,000kms and had my first oil change at 5000kms. For it to be free , it has to be done within the first 2 years, is what I read and told.

So Murray was right, it is 3 years. My dealership said they knew nothing about the extra year. So much fun getting serviced by ignorant people!

Thanks. You are correct. The dealer covered the cost but was indeed confused.

Clear as mud😖. I would be VERY wary of the opinions you get from GM Customer Care. Taking much of anything they say for fact will cause you all kinds of serious “fun” when you & your C8 arrive at your safe & effective Service Dept. For 2022- 2024 cars in most cases the dealers choose (tried hard) to push the two services on owners as one, where they said the one free canister filter had to be burned at the time of the initial free oil change service. As owners we soon learned and adjusted for those antics. With MY23 I am not aware of the 2023 cars benefiting from a further year extension beyond the manufacturer’s 2 year period on the warranty covered DCT filter change. However, as stated in the previous post 2024/25’s do receive that extra year now taking the factory covered maintenance to 3 years. BUT, the customer will be declined warranty coverage and you will be paying out of pocket (reads your own pesos) on the DCT filter change. It matters not when within the 3 year period you show up at your favorite service depot unless the car has at least the minimum 11,265 kms. Maybe tell them GM Customer Care said…🤣. Now, might you find a dealer who isn’t up to speed on this and tries to run the warranty code, sure there are countless threads about clueless service department representatives. Furthermore, I too have read online articles saying that 2024+ C8’s owners have 3 years or 7500 miles whichever comes first 🙄 but none are GM Bulletins. So really, this cost saving GM bait & switch where “you get something but they took something” is only going to frustrate garage queen owners that can not do the DCT service themselves. Finally, perhaps a newer GM Service Bulletin has replaced 24-NA-081 issued 04/24 (I am not aware of one so please post away for all of us) spells all of this out and provides a helpful Q&A section.

Fair enough. All I can say with certainty was that in my case (2023) yesterday they provided the second complimentary oil change and did the DCT Filter service and put it through as warranty and it was covered. Oil service and DTC and the two outstanding recalls got done. No cost for me. I am however still within the 24 month window. I was happy to have them done and covered despite it being more back and forth than ideal.

Where did you get 11265 kms minimum? My DCT 10,000 kms. I know one thing, when I called them about me not being close to 12000kms, I made sure that they gave me a pass on the 12000kms. They said they would honor my request and not bother when I reach that point. Besides, they are the ones that screwed up, by not knowing about the new 3 years for DCT. Cannot wait till spring. :Ack2: :bawling:

Yes, I never considered you were in jeopardy on being covered when reading your initial post. Pleased it all worked out well. The GMPP Total Plus extended service plan is available thru a CCF member and is a worthy consideration IF and only IF you plan on keeping your C8 beyond the expiration of the manufacturers 3 year bumper to bumper or bumper even the 5 year powertrain. A search will yield you threads and contact info for this👍🏻

Good ?. So 11,265.41 kms converts to 7000 miles which is the minimum threshold to qualifying and receive GM’s free warranty service on a 2024 or > C8 DCT canister & hydraulic system flush. As we know GM has modified the mileage window to + or - 500 miles either side of their stated 7500 mile number for the DCT filter canister to come out.
