So did the first oil change this morning and was expecting 7.5 quarts to be going in. Turned out to be 8 quarts and oil on dipstick still not to top of hatched area. No issues just a little surprised. I did let it drain for 30 minutes so maybe more left the system than most expect, although the manual says capacity is 7.5 quarts. It is what it is and I know for future changes.

You warmed the new oil to 175F/80C, and checked oil level at engine idle?
Only thing I can think of to do with engine oil.

Yep. 180 degrees and running.
That's a puzzler. Surely the filter doesn't hold 1/2 quart?
If I ever get a C8, I'll have to see if it takes an extra 1/2 quart.
It says 7.1L or 7.5Qt in the manual, as you say for the LT2 engine.

Been reading online and a bunch of posts say if you drain for 20 minutes or more you will use all of 8 quarts. I checked a couple of times and left the engine running to add more oil. Finally gave up when it took all 8 quarts. I am about 1/4 inch below the top of the hash marks now..

Like Murray said, good info.
I wish they had a "lazy man's" oil level check button somewhere in the cockpit.
I've got one in my 2017 Sprinter cab chassis, and it makes checking the oil simple.
Even I can do it. :p:Hurray::thumbs:

I have flown many aircraft that had sight gauges. Easy peasy. My whine is the manual says 7.5 quarts but that is somewhat inaccurate. I know oil quantity is truly calculated on volume not a a rigid quantity so I go by the dipstick. But surprised the volume and the quantity are this far removed from each other.

I could see myself starting an oil change, pull the drain plug, and getting easily distracted, and not getting back to it for days.
Me to co-pilot, "there was something I was supposed to do today, but I can't remember what it was....." 3 days later.
Then mine might take 9 or 10 quarts.......eeeessh.

As long as two days later you don't jump in and go for a drive.... :Arghh:
