2021 C8 Z06

Conjecture, rumours, speculation and hypothesis. I read that a 5.5 L DOHC NA is in the works for 2021 bumping out 600 hp. GM needs to make a smaller lighter engine to offset the weight for all the plumbing that go along with either the turbo or a DOHC engine. Time will tell. And that is how you make a great car spectacular.

You should know!!~!

Yes I’m seeing lots about a ~4.5 litre DOC, twin turbo, FPC engine. Apparently the low displacement is to offset vibration inherent in the flat plane engines and the turbos incorporated to ramp up the power with the higher RPMs the engine is capable of.
I’m guess around 725 HP for this new gen Z06 with the over 800 HP coming in the next ZR1 edition. 🤪

And a convertible model. Wow... amazing.

Exciting times to be sure.

The 4.2 L bored and stroked to 4.4. DOC turbo would be an awesome power plant for the Z06. I think you are right - 700 HP + range. It was great meeting you Derek at Grahams' house - beautiful car you have. I guess there will be more rumours, conjecture and speculation until there isn't eh.:Cheers2:

A smaller displacement twin turbo would be awesome. My understanding is the turbos run from off gases whereas the supercharger runs off the engine and is subject to some parasitic loss in hp. If GM is planning a more powerful C8, any of these potential engines would be a welcome addition to the C8 lineup.

Yes this is a real departure for Corvettes where it has been about displacement over forced induction.
The technology in developing higher HP efficient engines has grown massively and fortunately GM is right in there with this... as seen in Cadillac and now Corvette.

I am super curious to see the torque specs on this engine as in reality the fun power for the street is in the torque. Again one of the signature aspects of Corvettes as this big displacement, low RPM torque, making them so sensory rewarding and fun to drive on the street.

The supercharged 6.2 in the C7s are amazing at higher RPMs in 2nd gear and up but the LS7 in the C6 was in my opinion more fun on the street with that low end grunt. (I owned them both)
This interprets down to having that torque at an RPM and speed that doesn’t put you in jail.
With my C7 Z in second gear and in the real hard pulling torque range where you really get the car alive and it feels amazing, you are already way past any speed limit.
So times are changing for the corvette and how the power actually feels. But that’s to be expected if the car is going to keep up to its higher priced competitors. The DCT and the ratios will hopefully offset some of the lack of low end torque on the force inducted C8s.

The base NA Stingray will still have the torque down low so at least that is still there for any LS purists.

Fun times ahead

My shelby gt 500 was amazing: ST - tons of torgue in every gear: did not really have to use 1st gear. It was a beast though at about 4200 lbs - it was a convertible. Triple black and a pain in the ass to keep looking nice. I've scared myself in my C7 a few times. I could not imagine the fright I'd give myself in a Z06 -:heavycar:

Funny you should say that!

I've had performance vehicles my whole life, started out with a 1970 Challenger T/A, 340-Six Pack, 391 posi track........then a 98 SVT Cobra and now my Z06. I also used to love driving on the edge.....spinning the back end, and driving to the limits......at least my limits....and I believe I have above average driving skill......but this Z06 has scared me a couple of times.......things happen lightening fast.....car demands respect ha ha.......

Cobra

Barracuda with 340 six pack was an awesome car back in the day and the 428 Mustang Cobra - one of my fav,. cars of all time. I could not afford those cars back then,

Hey you, be nice. Hope you are doing well: great meeting you at Grahams :Cheers2:

We heard that the Z06 is supposed to be a dual turbocharged 800 hp engine. Displacement is currently unknown but likely smaller as forcast.

That is what I use to tell my GFs when I was a young buck - way too many years ago - so sad!!

You western guys sure seem to like your speed, with my luck I mostly got caught in radar going over the limit. Now that I am a bit older and hopefully wiser I slowed down somewhat. But I agree GM has stepped up and made the C8 one fine looking piece of art, and with future engines putting out more H/P will be a big sell for all you speed demons. I almost bought a C7 this summer, but after seeing the C8 and the base engine having enough H/P for my liking waiting to see what the Canadian price will be with the options I would like. Then will decide C7 or C8 assuming the C7 will drop in price by spring may be tempting. Happy motoring guys.

I am very happy with my 2016 C7 - plenty of HP for me. Hwy are so crowded here now - crazy - lucky if I can get to 120 (72 mph) anyway and, like you, the cops seem to see me coming. My home town is London - had an uncle that lived there. What has happened in Dorchester in the last 40 years anyway? God, I can't believe I have been out west that long? :heavycar:

Crazy! All I can say is the C8 stingray at almost 500 HP is more than enough for anyone; especially moi!!!

Sorry had to reply.......although it's a lot of horsepower, I for one always scream for more ha ha. Case in point although the 0-60mph times of the new C-8 seems to compare/beat a C-7 Z06, I've seen specs that's show after 60 mph the Z06 takes over.

With that in mind I'm sure there will be many out there that will want more, hence the manufacturers teasing of future Z06's, ZR1's or whatever model to fill the need of those that need more hp!

Cobra ;)
