2015 going to hurt 2014 sales?

Hi Gang!

I was blown away by the 2015 Z07 displayed at the Detroit Auto Show. I am now in the planning stages of getting one next year.

My question is: do you think seeing the many improvements on the next year model is going to hurt the current model sales? Especially when they claim it will be priced the same. I went to look at a 2014 (to make sure I was not too tall to fit in the darn thing). I clearly explained to the salesman that I was waiting for the next year model. He was confused since he had not read up on what the 2015 was going to be like (bad salesman...need to know your products!) I just cant imagine buying the 2014 model when the 2015 looks to be so much better.

Anyway, just wanted to see what you fine folks thought, especially those buying or bought new 2014's.

Thanks!

Scott are you thinking of the 2015 Z06 that was just unveiled in Detroit?

As far as I've heard the '15 Stingray and the '14 Stingray are the same --

They jazzed up the exterior somewhat on the forthcoming '15 Z06 and there may be a few interiors changes, and of course the engine is supercharged yielding about 625 hp or more, but the base Stingrays will be the same AFAIK.....

I agree. I think the 2014 has a couple things going for it.

Firstly, it was priced when the Canadian Dollar was on par with the American Dollar so we are getting a great deal which may change for the 2015 model year.

Secondly, I have not heard any changes either being made to the Stingray and expect they should be relatively the same. The only thing I would maybe suspect is that the '15 may get the same 8 speed auto as the Z car but I have not heard anything yet.

Thirdly, the Z06 will cost roughly $35,000 more over a 1LT Stingray if the pricing gap remains constant which will put it out of the market for a lot of people.

Fourthly, WELCOME TO THE FORUM! Wooooo! That would be quite a dream to get a C7Z! It looks like quite the wicked car!!!

I agree Riley.

With the Canadian dollar, I would expect a meaningful price increase for 2015 across the board. The 2014's are essentially on par with the US pricing which I cannot see them maintaining in 2015.

Also, there are so few allocations to Canada, they will sell everything of every model year anyway. I had heard that there are only 300 cars for 2014 in Canada... that's almost none!!! I would bet the 2014 production run will sell out simply because of lack of availability regardless of what happens in 2015. Once Spring comes the Canadian dealers will easily sell any remaining cars they have... if there are any truly in inventory now that aren't spoken for or ordered cars.

I'm also betting that with the drop in dollar, the Z06... which won't practically be in Canada for quite some time anyway, will easily be $110 to $120,000 optioned well. That puts it in a different snack bracket than the standard C7 which, for 2014, can be nicely equipped for $70K or less.

Hmmm...you guys are enlightening. I get confused with all the different models etc. So, the current top of the line model is the 2014 Stingray 1LT? I sat in one the other day at it had a $85,000 sticker price.
So when they say it will be "the same price" next year, they are not talking about the Stingray 1LT?

I think the 15's will be a far better car .If a bucket of money comes my way I'd like to have one but the cheap one :D

14's are sold out with waiting lists for '15's - can't wait for spring:canada:

Hey Gthal and Riley:

The pricing issue will definitely be real.....I bought the 13' C6Z and the sticker price was $102500 +taxes.....this was fully optioned with the 3Sc package and magnetic ride control. There is no way in hell that the C7Z will be offered at $85K with the new technologies involved north of the border. I have read a few articles....and it will be one badass ride. The prototypes have already smashed the track records set by the ZR-1 in its infancy. Who knows how many people will line up for the Z07 packaged car, which I predict similar to ZR-1 pricing (north of $120K). Lots of guys with short arms and deep pockets......

You guys are awesome. Thanks for the ongoing information.
I hope to be one of those dummies that lines up for that car. I was looking at Audi R8's but I find that they want way too much for that car. I wonder when they will start taking or holding a spot for the 2015s?

I'm betting they'll hold a car for you if you leave your name now.
A fellow member NewRoads (Jason) in TO with have more info for you .. Shoot him a pm.

For $85,000 it must have been a special edition or a vert. My Z51 coupe is loaded (except 2LT vs. 3LT) including MRC, NPP, etc. and it is $70,200. With 3LT it would still have been mid $70s. To get the $85K it would need to be a 3LT vert with every option known to GM :D

My bet is the Stingray will be several thousand more (at least) at each trim level 1LT, 2LT and 3LT in 2015 vs. 2014. Just a guess... we will have to wait and see.

Hey Scott! Sorry to add any confusion, when I was comparing the 1LT to the Z06 and saying it was $35,000 more, I was trying to compare base model to base model. The 1LT is the base with 2LT and 3LT being optional packages.

Lots of guys with short arms and deep pockets......

That is too funny. My problem is that someone sewed my pockets shut!
You sir, got one dang nice Z06! I have to agree with you and others on the pricing of the C7Z.
My best guess is that the Z06 will start around very low 90's and go to around 120 when you get to the Z07.

If the dollar tumbles to .85 this summer as they predict, if anyone gets a C7Z for under 100k + tax I think they have done well.

If we got 300 2014 Corvettes to all of Canada.... how rare will the new Z be? Guessing dealers will try get rich on the odd ones they get.

I am guessing they will sell between $105,000 and $125,000 for a Z07 packaged car

Brian

and I kinda would like a 2015 Z06 to try.... not trying to be negative with the high pricing thoughts....... but supply will be low and demand should be high..... and the Chevy dealers will be greedy!

:(

Brian

Look at the perks... below. haha

we are taking orders on 2015 stingrays and the 2 Z-06 cars we will have now
I do not see any major changes between the 2014 and 2015 stingray
I expect 2015 Z-06 will be sold out by the end of April

Jason...Would an order now on a Z hold the price at present expected levels?

Yes its pricing hasn't been announced yet but wondering if '15 prices will be bumped to reflect recent dollar changes.

MSRP is the best to hope for on a '15 Z06...if you can get one!
GM will raise CND prices for sure.
