yes they are different.  I have watched for stuff like that in the past and it is rare to see a nos front emblem.  Yet there seems to be a ton of the collector edition nose emblems.   You could try going with the part number to a GM dealer and let him do a nation wide search and possibly get lucky if some dealer has one sitting collecting dust.
