1979 speedo

Ok, I'm new to this form and I'm looking at a 1979 vette. The odometer say 50,000 on it, and the owner said it's original. I know GM went to Kilometers in1978, but does the odometer read miles or Kilometers in 1979? There are only 5 digits, not 6.

it would be the same units as your speedo. If the speedo reads in KM/h, then the odometer is the same. I also have 5 digits only

if the numbers on the outside dia. of the speedo are kilo's then the odo. is in kilo's, Kilo's started in '77 on Cdn. cars

If the car is in really good condition, chances are it has 50,000 km. If it looks worn, chances are it has 150,000 and if it looks like the interiors worn out, you know the rest.
