If it has cruise control the cable is a two part assembly with the cruise mechanical over vacuum assembly in the middle. Mine bounced around even with new cables and turned out to be the cruise control assembly.

Don't know if your car has the same switches as mine but on mine I believe the power wire runs through both switches in series. So when one switch went on mine both windows quit. I repaired the switches an plugins quite a few times till I finally bought new . My yearly problem is gone...

While the box is off the frame look for cracking where the box bolts on and where the steering cylinder anchor bolts on. Mine cracked there.

I had trouble with weak brakes after going to a lumpy cam. The fuel injection worked with it but the brakes sucked. The conversion only cost me 80$ and the brakes are awesome now. Besides I needed another project :)
