I found a NAPA shop in my area that is equiped with a scanner. I brought a t-top to be scanned, and bough a matched can ($25). The can color match well with the car but I like the touch up only for very small surfaces like rock dents. For large surfaces (1 sq inch), I find the end result a bit...
Maybe if you add pictures of your installation, you will get more comments. My overheating issue was due to a dirty radiator. For more cooling efficiency, I installed the foam seal between the radiator support and the hood. Engine temperature is now normaland stable.
I have a 79 with a »solid« Ttop same color as the car, not clear nor tinted. If you find a solid Ttops, the challenge will be to match your car color. Tinted Ttops are nice too.
I owned a C3 for 7 years and I considered a C5 too. the C3 is a 50 years old technology. Comfort and performance are not optimum but everytime I take it, I get the thumbs up from men and women of all ages,(except the Honda Civic drivers with the tuned muffler …). When my heart lean toward a C5...
my last battery problem was indeed an alternator problem. I searched for an electrical issue for weeks until I met a competent mechanic who tested the alternator and confirmed it was not producing enough voltage to keep the car running and recharge the battery. I changed the alternator myself...
As much as I enjoy gas engines, my next car for my daily usage will be electric. My daily driving is spent in stuck traffic and stupid non-synchronized lights. It take 20 minutes to do 5 miles. I am burning gas not moving. Another reason : 70% of gas we consume in Quebec come from foreign...
I have been chasing a heating problem at high power. On the highway, the engine temp goes in the red and come back down when I reduce power. A new pump was installed last year. I changed the thermostat, the radiator cap and the thermostatic fan clutch. No success so far. I noticed that there is...
Weekend mechanic mistake. When I torqued the bolts on the thermostat cover, I stripped the thread and I broke one corner of the boss that is part of the intake. The broken piece is 1/4 inch deep, and cover one third of the thread hole. I don’t want to remove the intake to rebuild the broken...
This is the article that made me chose the steel spring. The rest of the suspension is per original. I will replace the rear shock next, before moving the front. I though that the step from The original 200 lbs to 350 lbs monoleaf would be too high, but maybe the difference isn’t as big as the...
I just changed the battered and probably original 9 leafs steel spring for the same, and slightly regret it. I was scared that a composite monoleaf would be too stiff. I find the new 9 leafs a bit soft, and the installation was painfull. Handling the 20 lbs mono leaf would have been much easier...
Lift the car. Spin the rear wheel once and count the number of turns the drive shaft is doing. If it does 3 1/2, you have a 3.55. If the drive shaft spin a bit more than 4 times, you have a 4.11.
I have the same project for my 79. I love the car but it’s really missing the OD. Did you go for a rebuilt 700R4 or simply for a used one straight out of another car ?
.
A few years ago I was offered a rebuilt 700R4 for $1500, plus installation, plus other possible surprises. The guy was a Corvette mechanic but he was clearly not interested. His price was without changing the shifter i.e 3 speeds shifter with a 4 speed tran. From surfing the forums, it seems...
