Well, she's out (temporarily at least. Got my son's Corolla in the garage now). Took it for a short drive and it tracked nicely so I'm pleased with that. Still have to align the doors and finish the interior work but I think the hard stuff is out of the way.
To all of you who do body off restos...
Another afternoon in the garage and a little more progress. Trailing arms in, half shafts in. Aligned the trailing arms (thanks google) using the string along the frame method. I also used an 8 foot aluminum bar for initial setup. Drivers side is 101.4 mm from frame to string (front/back) with...
So after a brief hiatus (life does get in the way sometimes), I was able to get a few things done. Got the trailing arm bushings in and finally received the wheel bearing setup tool so I was able to install the bearings on one side. New front wheel bearings on the drivers side, caliper rebuild...
Got the differential installed this morning and driveshaft installed this afternoon. Only dropped the cups a half dozen times attaching it to the diff yoke. A few choice words were heard to say the least. Two more things off the list.
It's Friday and time for "tea". A good weekend to all.
So a good day. Got the passenger side bushings in. Caught a break on that side - only the #7 mount had to be replaced. The rest of the rocker channel was in good shape. I did have to cut the cage off at the #6 mount as I couldn't get the bolt out. Welded that that back in (what an awkward spot...
Some pictures of this weeks work. Hopefully next week I can get the passenger side done. From what I've seen so far, it seems the body was held down by the # 1, 5, 4 and 7 mounts and #4 was a stretch
Repair to #4 mount
Welded in patch #2 mount (I hate welding over my head. Only started one...
Hey Luke. Like your fridge. In my small garage (12*24), between the car and my woodworking tools, unless I hung a fridge from the wall, there'd be no room lol. Of course I could just whistle for the wife.......
I see you're from St. Bruno. We lived up near Mont Tremblant untill 3 years ago...
Back at it this week. Patched the big hole in the fiberglass on the #4 mount. Got lucky (I guess) with the rocker channel. Only rotten at the #2 and #3 mounts. Welded in the #3 repair patch I received and a patch i made to go under the rocker at the #2 mount. I will NEVER give up my day job to...
A tiny step forward this weekend. The differential is buttoned up after new bearings, side yoke and cover. Not a big step forward but at least some parts are off the dining room table! On to the body mounts while I await the rear bearing setup tools.
Hey Scotty. Just did mine on my '74. They are indeed pressed in. After the yokes and carrier were out I tapped them out with a large socket and extension
Glad to be of help. Wasn't sure if the #5 mount is aluminum or, like my car, a hockey puck. Might want to check the rest of them. I have three pucks and five rotten ones. New body mounts all around for me.
Hey Prab. Wish I could help you with your query but I'm not (I hope) doing a body off resto. Correct me if I'm wrong, but from the pics, it looks like you're missing a body mount at #1. Are they changing the mounts at the same time?
